A city that rewards curiosity
Follow the Río Cuale through its markets, walk the Malecón, visit the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, spend the day at Playa Los Muertos, or let dinner turn into a night out. Traditional food, international restaurants, street tacos, galleries, live shows, beach clubs, and everyday neighborhood life all sit close together here.
From your front door
A first visit to Vallarta does not need a packed schedule. Here is where to begin, and what helps along the way.
First, find your own front door. Seven apartments are at Insurgentes 222; Olas Altas is at Rodolfo Gómez 138. These are separate buildings, so save your apartment’s address before leaving the airport. Once you have climbed the stairs and put down your bags, a small wander is quite enough.
From Insurgentes, make Basilio Badillo a first stop for cafés, restaurants and shops. From Rodolfo Gómez, begin with Los Muertos Beach. Find something to eat, find a place to look at the water, and leave the ambitious excursions for tomorrow. Having your own apartment means you can come home for a breather without calling it a day.
Los Muertos is a city beach: restaurants, vendors, people strolling and the pier’s unmistakable sail-shaped silhouette. Expect the neighborhood to meet the sand, rather than a secluded strip in front of a resort. That is part of its appeal: water, a table for lunch, and your apartment can all belong to the same unhurried afternoon.
Choose your version of a beach day: a shoreline walk, lunch facing the water, or an afternoon at a beach club. Before settling in, ask about chair charges, minimum spending and what is included. Those services are separate from your stay. For swimming, follow beach flags and local staff’s instructions; sea conditions change.
At the northern edge of the neighborhood, the Río Cuale separates Zona Romántica from downtown. Its island offers a change of scene, with greenery, crafts and cultural spaces. Give it a morning without turning it into a shopping assignment: looking, pausing and moving on when you feel like it is a perfectly good plan.
To keep exploring, find the waterfront walk toward the Malecón and its sculptures. The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe is another downtown landmark. You do not need to finish the city in one outing: a short loop today can become a longer one tomorrow. Wear comfortable shoes; cobbles, sidewalks and street crossings deserve attention.
Zona Romántica has a visible, welcoming LGBTQ+ scene alongside cafés, bars, music and shows for a broad mix of visitors. Go out with a plan or decide as you wander. Check each venue’s own calendar for your dates; programs and opening times change with the season.
Or pick up something simple and eat in your own kitchen. That is part of the value of staying here: choosing where to spend and when to go out. This is a working, lively neighborhood, and some apartments face the street. Read each apartment’s light, sound and access notes to choose the right companion for your trip.
